Homemade Natural Shaving Cream With Essential Oils
Making your own natural shaving cream at home is an alternative to store-bought products, which can contain ingredients you want to avoid. Homemade essential oil shaving cream has a different consistency than commercial options, which may take getting use to. Both men and women can use the following shaving cream recipes.
1. Rosemary-Mint Natural Shaving Cream
For a brisk, uplifting scent.
- 1/3 cup coconut oil
- 1/3 cup shea butter
- 2 tablespoons olive or jojoba or sweet almond oil
- 5 drops peppermint essential oil
- 10 drops rosemary essential oil
- Melt the shea butter and coconut oil in a double boiler on low heat.
- Remove mixture from heat and pour into a heat-safe bowl.
- Stir in the other oils.
- Put the bowl in the fridge and leave until the mixture is solid.
- Whip the mixture with a hand beater or electric mixer until fluffy.
- Spoon the shaving cream into a glass jar. Cover with a lid and store in a dry, cool location. Use as desired.

Alternative: Replace the rosemary and peppermint with 15 drops lavender oil or with this blend:
- 2 drops peppermint essential oil
- 3 drops eucalyptus essential oil
- 10 drops lavender essential oil
2. Sandalwood Shaving Cream Recipe
Many men like the scent of sandalwood.
- 1/3 cup coconut oil
- 1/3 cup shea butter
- 1 tablespoon unscented castile soap
- 10 to 15 drops sandalwood essential oil
- Place the shea butter and coconut oil in a large mixing bowl.
- Whip with a mixer until well combined and it has fluffed up to almost triple it’s original amount (usually takes 3 to 5 minutes).
- Add the castile soap and essential oil. Whip again for 1 to 2 minutes or until well blended.
- Place shaving cream in a glass jar. Store covered. Use as desired.

3. Essential Oil Shaving Cream for Sensitive Skin
Try this shaving cream if you have sensitive skin.
- 2/3 cup shea butter
- 2/3 cup coconut oil
- 1/4 cup sweet almond oil
- 1/4 cup baby unscented castile soap
- A few drops Vitamin E oil
- 20 drops lavender essential oil (men could use sandalwood)
- In a double boiler over low heat, melt the coconut oil and shea butter.
- Pour the mixture into a ceramic or glass bowl and place in refrigerator. Let mixture solidify.
- Remove from refrigerator.
- Add almond oil, castile soap, and lavender essential oil.
- Using a hand mixer, whip the mixture until fluffy.
- Put into a glass jar and use as needed for shaving.

4. Essential Oil Shaving Cream for Women
- 2/3 cup organic unrefined shea butter
- 2/3 cup coconut oil
- 1/4 cup olive oil
- 2 tablespoons baking soda (it exfoliates)
- 10 drops essential oil of your choice
- Place the shea butter, coconut oil, and olive oil in a double boiler over medium low heat.
- Stir until melted. Remove from heat.
- Stir in essential oil.
- Put the double boiler in the refrigerator for 2 to 4 hours and let the mixture begin to solidify.
- When the mixture is firm, remove it from the refrigerator.
- Use an electric mixer to whip the mixture for about a minute. The consistency will be like thin cupcake icing.
- Add the baking soda. Continue to whip for another 30 to 60 seconds.
- Scoop the cream into clean glass containers. Put on the lids and place the containers in the fridge over night.
Note: You can store the shaving cream at room temperature, unless it starts to melt, in which case put it in the refrigerator to resolidify.

5. DIY Natural Shaving Cream
- 1/3 cup shea butter
- 1/3 cup coconut oil
- 2 tablespoons olive, jojoba, or almond oil
- 2 tablespoons liquid castile soap
- a few drops essential oils of choice
- Place shea butter and coconut oil in a double boiler and melt over low heat, stirring occasionally.
- Add olive oil and stir until fully blended.
- Remove mixture from heat.
- Pour it into a medium glass bowl. Place the bowl in the refrigerator until the mixture is solid.
- Remove from refrigerator.
- Whip the mixture, using a mixer, until fluffy (about 3 to 4 minutes).
- Whip in castile soap and essential oils.
- Place the shaving cream in a clean glass container that has a lid. Store in a cool, dry place.

6. Lotion Shave Cream
- 1/2 cup shea butter
- 1/3 cup sweet almond oil or melted coconut oil
- 10 drops essential oils of choice
- Place shea butter in a bowl. Whip it with a mixer.
- While still whipping, slowly add the almond oil or melted coconut oil.
- Add essential oils and whip again.
- Pour shave cream into a glass container. Use as desired.
