Using Essential Oils for Digestion
Commonly suggested essential oils for digestion include:
- Anise (Pimpinella anisum)
- Black Pepper (Piper nigrum)
- Cardamom (Elettaria cardamomum)
- Ginger (Zingiber officinale)
- Sweet Orange (Citrus sinensis)
- Peppermint (Mentha x piperita)
- Sweet Marjoram (Origanum majorana)
The Digestive System
Caution: Fennel and anise essential oils are commonly recommended for digestive problems. However, anyone who has or had an estrogen-dependent cancer should probably avoid these oils, according to aromatherapy expert Robert Tisserand in my personal correspondence with him.
Also, peppermint may aggravate GERD (gasto esophageal reflux disease) or hiatal hernia. (Source)
